Next Sunday, Riyadh will hold the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) Climate Week 2023, organized by the Kingdom in collaboration with the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) during October 8-12, 2023.
The MENA Climate Week program involves important discussions on climate change, gathering policymakers, practitioners, businesses, and civil society representatives from across the MENA region and the world.
The goal of the week is to address the complexities, challenges and opportunities of climate change, collectively offering views that will ultimately be considered as part of the climate 'stocktake' at COP28 in November. The stocktake is an assessment of progress made against the 2015 Paris Agreement, which sets a target of ensuring global temperatures do not exceed 1.5C compared to pre-industrial levels.
MENA Climate Week comes before COP28 talks, adding weight to this regional UN event. As host, it also provides a significant opportunity to highlight the Kingdom's commitment and efforts to combat climate change, with planned projects and innovations expected to be announced.
The event will be held from 8 to 12 October 2023
