His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, Minister of Energy, is heading the Kingdom's delegation at the 29th Conference of the Parties to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP29), currently being held in Baku, Azerbaijan. The conference, which will continue until November 22, 2024, is being held under the slogan "In Solidarity for a Green World."
The Kingdom's participation underscores its commitment to advancing global efforts to address the impacts of climate change, which is part of its broader vision focused on reducing emissions through the utilization and deployment of wide range of solutions and technologies. This approach is integral to the Kingdom's pioneering environmental initiatives, including the "Saudi Green Initiative" and the "Middle East Green Initiative”, aiming to reduce and manage emissions, promote the use of renewable energy, and increase vegetation cover, in line with the sustainable development goals outlined in Saudi Vision 2030.
The Kingdom’s initiatives emphasize the adoption of balanced and comprehensive policies that consider countries' responsibilities for historical emissions, while supporting the right of countries to sustainable development. Through these policies, the Kingdom underscores the importance of energy security as a critical element for economic growth and sustainability. Additionally, the Kingdom advocates for the inclusion of both conventional and renewable energy sources in global clean energy investments taking into account the rights of countries to utilize their natural resources.
