In a forum titled “Powering Saudi Arabia Forward” held at the General Electric Manufacturing & Technology Center (GEMTEC) campus in Dammam, HRH Prince Abdulaziz Bin Salman, Minister of Energy, inaugurated the General Electric MENA Decarbonization Center of Excellence (COE) and patronized the company’s celebration of over 10 years of operations at GEMTEC and more than 5 years at GE Saudi Advanced Turbines (GESAT), a Dussur-GE joint venture.
At the same occasion, HRH attended the company’s signing of key memoranda of understanding (MoUs) as part of initiatives that support strategic goals of the Saudi Vision 2030 and the Kingdom’s 2060 net-zero ambition.
It is noteworthy that GE has supported the development of the Kingdom’s energy infrastructure for more than 90 years, and it established more than 10 years ago the GEMTEC campus in line with the ambitious growth plans in the Kingdom.
The launch of the GE MENA Decarbonization Center of Excellence and the other initiatives announced today is a continuation of the company’s efforts in the Kingdom. It also supports the company’s collaboration with customers and partners to accelerate the Kingdom’s energy sector transition towards a more cost-effective, reliable and sustainable model that matches the future requirements and ensures the development of innovative solutions that meet the sector’s needs to be launched from Saudi Arabia to the world.
The initiatives announced by GE at the forum include the signing of several memoranda of understanding (MoUs) with Saudi Aramco, Saudi Electricity Company (SEC), and Dussur, as well as R&D collaboration with SEC and an order awarding for GE by Samsung C&T for gas turbines supply.
Moreover, Saudi talents working at the GEMTEC campus in Dammam were awarded at the forum for their exceptional achievements, as well as key suppliers and partners in the Kingdom who excelled in the areas of safety, quality, on-time delivery, and conformity to the principles of competition in a challenging working environment and fostered a culture of continuous improvement.
GE’s contributions to the Saudi energy sector include GE Saudi Advanced Turbines (GESAT), which is equipped to manufacture heavy duty gas turbines and components and furthers industrial localization efforts in the Kingdom, and GE MENA Decarbonization COE, which was inaugurated at the forum.
It’s worth mentioning that GE has invested considerable efforts in training Saudi talents and developing its supply chain in Saudi Arabia. Saudi workforce constitutes more than 60 percent at the GEMTEC campus, which is also collaborating with hundreds of Saudi suppliers.
