KACST and KACARE Cooperate to Achieve the Kingdom’s Objectives in the Area of Atomic and Renewable Energy

King Abdulaziz City for Science and Technology (KACST) and King Abdullah City for Atomic and Renewable Energy (KACARE) signed an agreement to achieve integration and leverage their capabilities and resources to achieve the aspirations and objectives of the Kingdom in the fields of atomic and renewable energy.

The agreement was signed by His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Energy and Chairman of KACARE, and His Excellency the Minister of Communications and Information Technology, Chairman of KACST, Eng. Abdullah bin Amer Al-Swaha, in the presence of His Excellency the President of KACST, Dr. Munir bin Mahmoud Al-Desouki, His Excellency the President of KACARE, Dr. Khaled bin Saleh Al-Sultan, and several officials of KACST and KACARE.

Integration between the energy ecosystem and KACST is a key step to enhance the Kingdom’s leading position as a global leader in atomic and renewable energy; given that KACST is seen as the national laboratorywhich is why this step comes as an affirmation of confidence in the capabilities of the compatriots in the energy ecosystem and in KACST to implement projects and studies in the research and technical areas related to national security, water security, radiation monitoring, to develop its technologies to better serve the objectives of the Saudi Vision 2030, and to reach an ideal energy mix by 2030.​

According to the agreement, both parties will leverage the Research Institute and the Research Reactor and their facilities and develop operational plans related to them to serve the Saudi National Atomic Energy Project (SNAEP).

The areas of cooperation between both parties include building human, technical, and research capacities, exchanging scientific experiences, holding training programs, workshops, and conferences, in addition to equipping and developing research laboratories, and providing consultations to serve the areas of atomic and renewable energy, including SNAEP and other renewable energy projects.

In the meantime, KACARE will develop the content and research specializations related to atomic and renewable energy and exchange information and statistical data to implement research and joint projects in this area.
