The Saudi Power Procurement Company (SPPC) has announced the tendering of five new renewable energy projects, as part of Round 4 of the projects of the National Renewable Energy Program, which the Ministry of Energy oversees.
These projects, whose total capacity is 3,300 MW, include three wind projects and two solar PV projects. The total capacity of wind power projects in this round is 1,800 MW, distributed between the 700 MW Yanbu Wind IPP, the 600 MW Al-Ghat Wind IPP, and the 500 MW Waad Al Shamal Wind IPP. Meanwhile, the total capacity of solar PV projects is 1,500 MW, distributed between the 1,100 MW Al-Henakiyah Solar PV IPP and the 400 MW Tabarjal Solar PV IPP.
Integrated with the other projects in the National Renewable Energy Program, these projects will support the national power grid and help diversify the energy mix used in power generation in the Kingdom. In doing so, the projects contribute to realizing Saudi Vision 2030's objectives of displacing liquid fuel in electricity production and having the share of renewables and gas in the Kingdom's energy mix used to generate power at 50% each by 2030.
