As part of the Saudi pavilion’s events in the COP28 conference, three sessions were held on Saturday and addressed land degradation, biodiversity, the role of quality in supporting the Saudi Green Initiative, and the impact of major environmental projects on temperature.
The first session, titled "Combating Land Degradation as a core of Climate Action and Biodiversity," focused on climate change and biodiversity in the Kingdom, showcasing strategies and measures taken by the Kingdom to address challenges arising from climate impacts in order to support environmental balance.
During the second session, attended by H.E. the Governor of the Saudi Standards, Metrology, and Quality Organization, Dr. Saad Al-Qasabi, the speakers discussed the role of quality infrastructure in supporting the Saudi Green Initiative, emphasizing the importance of understanding such infrastructure and applying global standards and modern technologies to address climate change. The President of the King Abdullah Petroleum Studies and Research Center highlighted the center's efforts in developing policies to achieve energy transition and addressing financial and investment challenges and solutions.
The session "Climate Futures: A Flexible Pathway for the Three-Degree Scenario in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia" addressed the implications of this climate scenario and its challenges to the ecosystem. Speakers discussed the role of several giant national projects such as Red Sea and King Salman Park in environmental preservation.
Through its extensive participation, the Kingdom seeks to enhance cooperation to find comprehensive solutions that contribute to making the desired change in the climate field, ensuring that the policies discussed at the conference meet the world's need to adapt to climate change, and promote economic prosperity, while maintaining global energy security.
