The Saudi pavilion participating in the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (COP28), held in Dubai, United Arab Emirates, hosted today three sessions focused on corporate sustainability, greenhouse gas crediting and offsetting mechanism, and carbon dioxide removal techniques.
In the first session titled "Corporate Sustainability Practices," participants provided an overview of Saudi efforts in managing corporate sustainability and private sector strategies, and discussed the potential role of technology and financing in enhancing sustainability.
The participants in the second session titled "Saudi Local Market Mechanism: Greenhouse Gas Crediting and Offsetting Mechanism" discussed the mechanism launched during the recent Climate Week in the Middle East and North Africa region in Riyadh, which serves as a leading national platform that contributes to achieving the Kingdom’s climate ambitions.
Experts in the third session titled "Carbon Dioxide Removal Techniques: A Key Tool in Addressing Climate Change" showcased various techniques and methods for removing carbon dioxide and addressed challenges and enablers for improving efficiency and reducing costs of these technologies.
Saudi Arabia's participation aims to enhance cooperation in finding comprehensive solutions to drive the climate action, ensuring that discussed policies at the conference meet the world's needs for climate adaptation and promote economic prosperity while maintaining global energy security.
The Kingdom's participation comes after the success of the Climate Week in the Middle East and North Africa region held in Riyadh last October.
Throughout the conference, Saudi Arabia is hosting 25 accompanying events in its pavilion in the Blue Zone,
including four events under the umbrella of clean energy ministerial and mission innovation forum. This is in addition to the accompanying events in the Green Zone within the Saudi Green Initiative exhibition that cover a number of topics related to climate change.
The Kingdom adopts an approach that links energy security with sustainable growth, prosperity, climate change mitigation while considering each country's national circumstances as part of its energy-related policies and strategies.
