The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, represented by its energy industry, participates in the 26th World Energy Congress held in Netherlands from 22 to 25 April 2024. The Congress addresses various energy-related topics as well as the transitions in the vital energy sector and highlights the need to improve and enhance the management of such transitions in a just, fair, and eco-friendly manner.
Saudi Arabia’s participation in the Congress underscores its significant contributions and leading role in the energy sector through several national programs and initiatives showcased by a selected group of specialists and experts.
The Kingdom is hosting its own pavilion at the exhibition, running alongside the Congress, under the theme “Sustainable Energy – Shared Future”, which features Saudi Arabia’s endeavors as one of the world's pivotal energy hubs and underscores its concentrated efforts that contribute to global climate change mitigation efforts.
Furthermore, the pavilion highlights the steps undertaken by Saudi Arabia to achieve its national ambitions to reach net zero by 2060 when the necessary technologies are available and mature. This emerges from the necessity to provide individuals and communities with sustainable energy and encourage the joint action to preserve the future of the planet and its inhabitants.
During the 26th WEC, Saudi Arabia is participating in discussions on several energy -related topics, including developing renewable and nuclear energy sector, improving energy efficiency by 2030, leveraging liquid fuel displacement, and accelerating implementation of carbon emission reduction and removal technologies such as Carbon Capture, Utilization, and Storage (CUSS) and low-carbon hydrogen production.
Saudi Arabia, represented by the Ministry of Energy, will host the 27th World Energy Congress which is set to take place from 26 to 29 October 2026 in Saudi Arabia's capital Riyadh.
The Kingdom has been selected to host the 27th WEC through a nomination by the World Energy Council, with more than 70 members representing more than 3,000 organizations across the entire energy spectrum. The World Energy Congress, the world’s most prominent, inclusive and influential energy event, has helped drive energy transitions forward for several decades by bringing together stakeholders representing energy interests from all over the world.
