King Fahd University of Petroleum, Minerals Launches 15 New MSc Programs to Keep Pace with Vision 2030

King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals announced the launch of 15 new master's degree programs that accompany the transformation of the national economy into a diversified, digital and knowledge-based economy, to achieve the university's future vision by making a qualitative leap in its programs, and completing the commitment to excellence that it has been keen on throughout the years. 

The new majors opened for admission to male and female students starting from Monday 22 Dhu al-Qi'dah 1441 AH/July 13, 2020 include: artificial intelligence, cybersecurity and blockchain, robotics and autonomous systems, data science, quantum computing, computational analysis, materials science and engineering, petrochemical engineering, polymer science and engineering, industrial catalyst, computational materials and modeling, wireless communication networks, sustainable and renewable energy, bioengineering, and supply chain management.

This step comes as the university desires to provide early specialization programs by introducing more than 21 new specialized programs in the undergraduate stage that focus on the requirements of new technologies and the new economy, and on providing specializations of strategic importance to the Kingdom, including drones, electronic defense systems, and artificial intelligence. The university has also reformulated all its academic programs to be based on a digital basis that integrates the study of digital science with all other disciplines to support the digital direction of the Kingdom and the world.

His Royal Highness Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Minister of Energy and Chairman of the Board of Trustees of King Fahd University of Petroleum and Minerals, said that these qualitative programs respond to the changes that the world is witnessing, commensurate with the renewable and advanced needs of the labor market, and represent an economic tributary that invests in the qualified youth sector, which represents a vital and influential force in achieving the aspirations of the leadership. His Highness extended his utmost gratitude to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud, and to His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed bin Salman bin Abdulaziz, Crown Prince, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense - may God protect them  - on their great support for education, as it is the influential sector in the knowledge and technical transformations that the Kingdom is experiencing, and in a way that serves the knowledge economy, which is a major goal of the Kingdom's 2030 vision.

His Highness explained that this step is part of a comprehensive strategy that the university recently started to implement as part of its transformation program, with the aim of making a qualitative impact on the Kingdom's economy and enabling it to transform into a new and diversified economy with the university achieving fourth place in the world in the number of registered patents and the annual classification of the American National Academy of Inventors and Intellectual Property Owners of Universities recently. The university continues to commit to supporting research and directing the size and nature of research programs to meet the needs of the new economy and emerging companies.

It is worth noting that the new programs are available for graduates from the same university or from other recognized universities, as well as for engineers and specialists, who work in various fields and wish to develop their careers and specialize more deeply in their fields of work.

The new programs are characterized by full-time and intensive one-year duration, while the admission of applicants will be based on a set of factors, including GPA, English language proficiency, nature of the bachelor's degree, practical application, and others.
