The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the United States of America have signed a partnership framework for advancing clean energy to promote the two countries' efforts in clean energy and climate action.
This partnership reinforces the Kingdom's commitment to its responsibilities and realizes the announcements and initiatives, led by HRH Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman, to preserve the environment and address climate challenges, in order to achieve growth and prosperity in the region and the world.
At the margins of President Joseph Biden's visit to the Kingdom, the agreement was signed by HRH Saudi Minister of Energy Prince Abdulaziz bin Salman and U.S. Senior Advisor for Energy Security Amos Hochstein.
The partnership framework covers cooperation in the fields and projects of clean energy, the implementation of the Circular Carbon Economy (CCE), the realization of the Paris Agreement goals, collaboration in Carbon Capture, Utilization and Storage technologies, including Direct Air Capture (DAC). It also includes promotion of clean hydrogen, collaboration in providing access to clean cooking solutions, collaboration in the field of improving and accelerating life cycle emissions reductions of fuels, collaboration on increasing the adoption of more sustainable materials to reduce the carbon footprint. In addition, it includes collaboration on research and development, innovation, and artificial intelligence, joint work to ensure sustainability in the energy sector supply chain, collaboration in enhancing power systems to achieve supply security and flexibility and collaboration in improving the economics of clean electricity generation technologies and energy storage systems and their integration into power grids. This partnership framework also allows for further cooperation in areas not described within it, consistent with both countries' policies, laws, regulations and international commitments.
