The 26th Conference of the Parties (COP26) of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), held in Glasgow, Scotland, UK between 31 October and 12 November 2021, is a UN conference concerned with climate change issues.
COP is the supreme governing body responsible for decision-making under the UNFCCC. It monitors and reviews the implementation of the UNFCCC. The 197 countries and territories that have signed the UNFCCC (the Parties) participate in the conference. COP21, held in 2015 in Paris, France, resulted in the Paris Agreement. The Kingdom actively participates in the conference. It always stresses the importance of taking into account the interests of all the Parties, including poor and developing countries, and looking at energy in a comprehensive manner. This ensures the three pillars of energy: energy security, sustainable development and climate change, are all attended to without compromising one pillar for the sake of another. The Kingdom, during this COP26, will present its two initiatives, announced by HRH the Crown Prince, namely the Saudi Green Initiative and Middle East Green Initiative. These two initiatives are based on the circular carbon economy, which was proposed by the Kingdom and endorsed by the G20 in 2020.
