Result from 2012 until year 2020
Industry
An improvement in the level of energy consumption from 2011 to 2019 in the main manufacturing industries (first phase)
Iron:
A decrease in energy intensity level by 2% in the electric arc furnace process
Cement:
A decrease in energy intensity level by 2.8% in cement factories and 4.2% in clinker plants
petrochemicals:
A decrease in energy intensity level by 2.9 %
Buildings
- 26 energy efficiency specifications and regulations for products such as thermal insulation materials, large and small air conditioners, home electrical appliances, and lighting products, in addition to updating the two energy rationalization codes in the Saudi Building Code (601-602 SBC).
- The Minimum Energy Performance Standard (MEPS) increased by 57% as a result of implementing energy efficiency standards to split AC units
- Refrigerator consumption decreased by 22% as a result of the energy efficiency standards
- 60% Decrease in washing machines consumption as a result of the energy efficiency standards
- Home and street lighting consumption decreased by 80% as a result of the energy efficiency standards
Transport
- The implementation of Vehicle Energy Efficiency Label for LDVs started in 2014 and was updated in 2018 to include electrical vehicles (EVs).
- The first phase of the tire anti-rotation specification for LDVs and HDVs was implemented in 2015 and the second phase in 2019.
- Started the first stage of the Saudi Arabia Corporate Average Fuel Economy (CAFE) standards for LDVs in 2016, and the second phase was implemented in the beginning of 2021. The improvement in fuel economy since the implementation has reached around 16%.
Industry
Expanding the current industrial energy efficiency framework to include aluminum and other subsectors
Buildings
- Developing the buildings energy intensity initiative
- Working on completing the energy efficiency specifications for the rest of the electrical appliances
Transport
- Working on updating (CAFE) to include the objectives of Phase 3 of the standard which will be implemented in 2024
- Drafting the aerodynamic devices specification for highway trucks
